I can mix any color and do a sample board for you. The installation will require me to smooth the wall followed by applying a primer. We are now ready for the Venetian Plaster.

Venetian Plaster Application

Having applied venetian plaster for such a long time, it is still very physically demanding, and requires a skill set. The chop coat, a slang for design coat or final, is created differently by every applicator. I would say my style is more organic, describing the movement of the plaster patterns that are seen in the final product. Without getting technical, it is a beautiful decorative finish. At some point of the application you have to burnish, which is moving your trowel across the surface. This allow for the marble to rise to the surface, additionally it seals the finish.

History of Venetian Plaster

This could be a very long topic… however I will keep it brief. It was used back in the Roman times, however it could be found earlier than that. Venice is where it was reborn and established for its beauty of marble, however much lighter in weight than marble. There are many different types of venetian plaster such as Marmorino, Calcenova, Travertino and many more. Different aggregates are used as well as the size of the marble that is infused into the plaster. In fact, marmorino means “little marble”.
